About EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) is a psychotherapeutic approach using bilateral stimulation to help you process upsetting events and heal. The stimulation can be watching moving light or fingers or alternating taps or sounds. EMDR affects brain functioning. What happened in the past is remembered but is less upsetting.

EMDR can be helpful in healing:

  • Fears (such as flying, driving, closed spaces, heights, dogs, etc.)
  • Emotional, Physical or Sexual Abuse
  • Chronic Pain (such as headaches, back pain,
fibromyalgia, arthritis, unresolved pain from injuries, etc.)
  • Performance Anxiety
  • Grief
  • Upsetting Memories
  • Panic Attacks
  • Any Small or Large Trauma

EMDR Testimonials

"Two years ago I began seeing Cindy because I had developed an intense fear of airline travel and severe anxiety when driving on the interstate.  Further, I was feeling depressed and anxious nearly every day.  My general physician had prescribed an anti-depressant medication; however, it wasn't helping my intense anxiety.  Cindy described the use of EMDR to me and, I must admit, I was skeptical.  I thought, "How can a series of clicks or hand movements possibly help me?"  I decided to give it a try.  After several months of EMDR, I am no longer fearful of airline travel, I have been able to drive on the interstate several times and I have seen a significant improvement in my general anxiety and depression.  It feels great to be making progress and to feel like I am taking charge of my emotional well-being.  Kudos to Cindy for using this innovative technique!" –CB

"As the eldest adult child of two alcoholics I doubted I would ever have normal reactions to events in my life.  I could not get beyond the traumatic experiences of my childhood.  I felt irrevocably damaged and could not enjoy life.  I had irrational feelings about myself that prevented me from acknowledging my accomplishments.  I have worked with many therapists over the course of my life with no success until my sessions with Cynthia Busher. EMDR is one of the therapies that enabled me to get beyond the paralyzing experiences of my childhood. Through EMDR I was able to explore other possible scenarios of past experiences which were essential to my healing.  I am delighted with the new me, doing and feeling things once thought impossible." -PR
